Amelia Thomas was one of five siblings born in Kolar Gold Fields, near Bangalore, in South India. She studied at the local school St Joseph's Convent and also at the sister school in Bangalore as a boarder, not the happiest time as she missed her family and friends. She came to England with her family in the 60s, living and working in London.
